Chiropractic is a vitalistic approach to health care that focuses on the relationship between the spine and its effects on the nervous system and how that relationship affects the preservation and restoration of health. Doctors of chiropractic make gentle adjustments to the bones of the spine to remove interferences that can hinder the body’s natural ability to heal and function at its full potential.
Chiropractic is concerned with keeping the nervous system free from interference. Whether you are seeking a chiropractor with the intention of pain relief, a particular diagnosis, or spinal health maintenance, every person can benefit from chiropractic care. Even small misalignments of the spinal bones can cause a multitude of problems due to the brain to body miscommunication. Chiropractics strive to remove these interferences by specifically adjusting these particular areas of misalignments to help restore proper nerve function, thus overall body function.
Common responses from regular chiropractic care include but are not limited to
increased mobility, decreased aches and pains, better response to stress, improved digestion, improved posture, improved sleep, and less sick days. Chiropractors do not claim to cure your symptoms. We have found that with consistent chiropractic care, the patient may feel better and function better as a whole when we remove the accumulated stress from the spinal column.
Chiropractic is a process not an event. To regain integrity to the spine a series of corrective adjustments is necessary. Care is typically broken down into 3 phases: Primary corrective, secondary corrective, and maintenance phase. During primary phase, visits are scheduled more frequently. In secondary phase, visits are more spaced out. Once the corrections have been achieved, an interval of periodic checkups will be determined and recommended. This is called the maintenance phase where visits are determined by each person’s different needs, therefore is dependent on the individual. Most people find that they enjoy the benefits from chiropractic care and become long term maintenance patients.
Chiropractic is completely safe for pregnant women! As a matter of fact, there is a special technique called the Webster technique, which offers a gentle adjustment focused specifically on the pelvic region throughout pregnancy. This promotes proper alignment of the pelvis by creating a state of balance of all bony structures, muscles, and ligaments, allowing the baby greater room to develop without restrictions thus ensuring baby is most comfortable. Overall, many pregnant women have reported less back pain and shorter labor and delivery time!
Chiropractic is completely safe, gentle, and effective in babies as well as children. The birth process can be very traumatic to a newborn baby and chiropractors are specially trained to find these subtle subluxations that may have occurred. As your child learns how to roll over, sit up, crawl, walk and eventually run, the inevitable falls can lead to misalignments that cause interference in the nervous system. Regular pediatric chiropractic care can make sure your child’s spine and nervous system are developing properly and prevent many problems that may emerge in adulthood. The amount of pressure used to adjust babies and children is much like the amount of pressure you would use to check the ripeness of a tomato. Many babies even sleep during their adjustments!
